Long-time EA developer Geoff Harrower, better known as GameplayDevUFC and rEAnimator, dropped a bombshell on reddit, asking if a “game developer” should “quit his job because he works on a game that contains micro transactions.” He considered the idea as part of a series of “deeply personal questions” and a “burden” that “none of us can escape.” He likened it to “two people giving each other CTE.” The post was made in the hugely popular r/MMA subreddit. It is not clear if the “video game developer” in question refers to himself or a fictional entity.
We have just received word that fishingtime has given up and shut down his underground subreddit, r/EASPORTSUFC2. This came after months of controversy that split the community apart. Fishingtime ruled with an iron fist, banning many members and locking threads within hours of their publication.
Meanwhile, with fishingtime’s absence, r/EASportsUFC has become a thriving community, with many helpful threads discussing the game. Hopefully there is still time for the MMA community to heal from the damage caused by fishingtime.
Several posts on reddit have been highlighted recently. Just as predicted by fishingtime, a user has threatened suicide over EA UFC 2. Stress levels are at an all-time high after the latest patch, which has once again greatly affected gameplay.
Reddit user townnbibby claimed that the patch “fucked up the game” which upset several members of the fledgling EA UFC community. One user became so upset that he threatened to commit suicide after deleting his reddit account. His reddit account was deleted shortly thereafter.
Yet another Reddit user has been Banned from r/easportsufc2 after telling fishingtime there was already an official subreddit for EA SPORTS UFC 2 calling him a troll. Fishingtime was quick to threaten a Reddit IP ban.
